Current SituationDear Friends and Participants of our Workshop We, like all people in Germany, feel very sorry for the victims of the terrible assaults yesterday and want to express our deepest sympathy for their families and friends. Because some of you asked and others may want
to know we would like to inform you about the current
GeneralIn General, as stated by German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on Tuesday afternoon, Germany is safe and German authorities are vigilant. According to Gemany's Federal Minister of the Interior Otto Schily (Wednesday morning) there is no immanent danger for Germany and Europe. Germany has in the past not been a target of international terrorism. According to the German intelligence agencies no evidence for planned terrorist actions exist. As a measure of precaution, special security measures have been taken for all U.S., Israeli, or Jewish institutions (embassies and consulates, US armed forces). Security on airports is enforced but is said to cause no delays. There are no U.S. or Israeli organizations located in Kassel. However, Germany is part of NATO and any military
response of the US may have an impact on the situation in Germany.
Air TravelInformation from Lufthansa, Wednesday morning: "Flights between Germany and USA/Canada were cancelled. Airspace of the U.S.A. and Canada is closed until further notice. A toll-free service hotline is available for customers of Lufthansa..." Phone numbers see below. Lufthansa also cancelled flights to Tel Aviv. Because all travelers have been informed, cancellation
of North American flights does not impose problems for flight to and from
other directions.
