Video Art Festival #003 Founded by artists in 1977, Harvestworks Digital Media Center has helped a generation of artists create new works using technology. The Center invites artists to submit videos of all types (experimental, animation, music video, documentary, silent, short, etc) for a guest curated video art festival. Works selected from this call, as well as by private invitation, will be featured in a series of themed screenings in September 2008. The festival's main objective is to highlight inventive and visually rich video created in the twenty-first century. Though this solicitation is truly broad, we are especially interested in highlighting the following: 1. A theme program exploring the notion of fac,ade (i.e. architecturally or in the sense of superficial appearance or illusion). 2. Videos exploring food, agriculture, and/or the environment. 3. Videos with a strong music or sound component; audiovisual collaborations. 4. Silent video works. 5. Videos made especially for viewing via the Web and/or mobile handheld device. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION Entry Deadline: postmark by JUNE 16, 2008 Send entries to: Harvestworks Digital Media Center, VIDEO ART FESTIVAL #003, 596 Broadway #602, New York, NY 10012. Eligibility All genres of video created between 2000 - 2008 are eligible. Video must be complete at the time of submission. No more than 15 minutes in length (clearly indicate navigation to the most compelling chapter or 2-minute segment). Single-channel video only.* Entry Form Please download and fill out the entry form completely. http://www.harvestworks.org/cms/forms/Harvestworks_Video_Art_2008.pdf Entries by individuals, groups, collectives or organizations are acceptable. A separate entry form is required for each title. NO MORE THAN TWO ENTRIES PER ARTIST OR GROUP. No entry fee. Additional Materials In addition to your entry, please enclose a CV or resume, a short biography, and a brief description or synopsis of your video. Label each DVD with artist name(s), title of video, and total running time. Though not required, we strongly encourage you to include at least one photo still or digital image. Formats Preview copy: Entries should be submitted for preview on DVD (NTSC). Exhibition copy: Acceptable formats for exhibition include DVD or Mini-DV (NTSC only). *If video is to be viewed via the Web and/or by mobile handheld device, clearly state this condition in your description or synopsis. Most other works will be shown by way of single-channel projection. Foreign language work must be subtitled in English. Authorization By entering the festival, the entrant authorizes a public screening of the work in the festival and agrees to provide an exhibition copy upon notification of acceptance and publicity material (including photographs) upon request. The entrant also authorizes Harvestworks to publish publicity materials in press releases, program notes and on our website, and to place a copy of the work in the permanent archive of the Harvestworks Media Collection. Notification If your entry is accepted for exhibition you will be notified in July 2008. Entries not accepted can be returned, provided that a self-addressed and stamped envelope is included with your entry. Submitted materials are not covered by insurance. The organizers assume no responsibility for possible damages to the entries. Receipt of Exhibition Copy: August 1, 2008 If your entry is accepted for exhibition, your exhibition copy must arrive at Harvestworks Digital Media Center by August 1, 2008.
